چکیده

Background: Tibial torsion is a twist in the tibia measured as an angle between proximal axis line and distal line. Abnormal has been associated with variety of painful clinical syndromes lower limb. Measurements normal tibial reported by different authors vary 100% (ranging from 20° to 42°), making it impossible determine pathological levels. Purpose: To address problem unreliable measurements, this study was conducted define automated, validated computer method calculate torsion. Reliability compared current methods. The difference measurements generated computed tomography (CT) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans same bone, males females, assessed. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Previous methods analyzing were reviewed, limitations identified. An automated measurement these defined. A total 56 cadaveric patient tibiae (mean ± SD age, 37 15 years; range, 17-71 28 female) underwent CT scanning, 3 blinded assessors made applying 2 defined present article. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) values calculated. Further, 12 scanned MRI, stripped tissue, using structured light (SL) scanner. Differences obtained CT, SL, MRI scans, t tests. SPSS used for all statistical analysis. Results: When used, had mean external 29°± 11° (range, 9°-65). Automated assessment excellent reliability (ICC, 1), whereas good 0.78-0.81). No significant found calculated SL ( P = .802), .708), or .826). Conclusion: use software automatically perform ensures consistency, time efficiency, validity, accuracy not possible manual which are dependent on assessor experience. Clinical Relevance: We recommend that be adopted practice establish databases reference ultimately guide management related conditions.

Tibial torsion among filipinos: a cadaveric study.

ABSTRACT Tibial torsion, the twisting of the tibia about its long axis, can affect rotational positioning in total knee replacement. This angle varies depending on the ethnicity of the subject. There are no published studies to date to determine the tibial torsion among Filipinos. In this study, 28 cadaveric limbs were examined. Our results show that the average tibial torsion among adult Filip...

Tibial torsion: significance and measurement.

Following the acceptance for publication of the article by Hazlewood et al. in a recent issue of Gait & Posture we were invited by the Editor in Chief to comment on the challenging issue of measuring tibial torsion [1]. Tibial torsion describes the axial or transverse plane alignment of the shank segment of the lower extremity. In utero, lower extremity limb bud formation occurs during the 4th ...

Opening wedge tibial osteotomy: the 3-triangle method to correct axial alignment and tibial slope.

BACKGROUND Although a change in tibial slope may occur during a medial opening wedge osteotomy, calculations have not been defined to address this problem. The authors investigated geometric factors important to correct axial alignment and tibial slope during osteotomy. PURPOSE To calculate, through 3-dimensional analysis of the proximal tibia, how the angle of the opening wedge along the ant...

How to measure the onset of babbling reliably?

Various measures for identifying the onset of babbling have been proposed in the literature, but a formal definition of the exact procedure and a thorough validation of the sample size required for reliably establishing babbling onset is lacking. In this paper the reliability of five commonly used measures is assessed using a large longitudinal corpus of spontaneous speech from forty infants (a...

How reliably do rheumatologists measure shoulder movement?

OBJECTIVE To assess the intrarater and interrater reliability among rheumatologists of a standardised protocol for measurement of shoulder movements using a gravity inclinometer. METHODS After instruction, six rheumatologists independently assessed eight movements of the shoulder, including total and glenohumeral flexion, total and glenohumeral abduction, external rotation in neutral and in a...
